Engagement Ring Aftercare

By | Engagement Rings | No Comments

Aftercare is a very important aspect of owning precious jewellery pieces like engagement rings. Whatever the value of your ring is, it is always important to maintain, insure and take care of it. After all, it could become a family heirloom (if it isn’t already).

How you treat your ring will be apparent to anyone who looks at it. Here is how to ensure your ring stays in optimal shape for years to come.

Store your jewellery in a cool, clean and dry place in a fabric-lined case.

Cupboards, drawers and jewellery boxes with dividers are out of direct sunlight are key to ensure that your ring isn’t exposed to humidity. The fabric-lined case ensures that your ring is separate from other jewellery pieces and is not prone to scratches.

Handle your jewellery with clean hands

This sounds like a no brainer, but even if your hands feel clean, any oils, food debris, sticky residues and the like can affect your ring. Don’t take a chance and always wash your hands.

Consult with your jeweller before using ultrasonic cleaners

Small home-cleaning machines are available to opt out of professional ring cleaning. While this is convenient, they can sometimes they can damage your jewellery. Always consult your jeweller about any new ideas on how to care for your ring. If they recommend that you have your ring professionally cleaned, you should clean your ring once or twice a year.

Clean your diamonds regularly

You can clean the diamond with a recommended solution or mild detergent at home like a mix of ammonia or water. Lotions, soaps and perfumes can affect the appearance of the diamond over time so if you wear your ring frequently, be aware that it will need a good cleaning regularly.

Do not wear it while cleaning your home

Think about it, chemicals from household products vs. your beautiful, precious ring. Exposure to chemicals like chlorine for instance can corrode the gold.

Do not wear it during rough work

Rings can easily be chipped, scratched or damaged. Cleaning out your garage? It’s best to take your ring off to lower the chances of scuffing your ring!

Ring Insurance

If you’re a new ring owner, you should highly consider insuring your ring in the case is your ring becomes lost, damaged or if it is stolen. Ring insurance can be added to your home or personal property insurance to partially cover or fully cover your ring, depending on your plan. The only way ring insurance can come into full effect is if you have the ring appraised by a certified professional (which must be done every 5 years) and if you have the original receipts.

Following these steps will ensure that your ring stays safe, protected and clean at all times so you can enjoy it for the years to come. If you want to learn more about ring maintenance get in touch with us for any questions you may have.

Three Trends in Custom Designed Rings

By | Inspiration, Women's Wedding Rings | No Comments

We have previously written about the benefits of custom designed rings and the flexibility and choice that comes with creating a custom ring with Randor. This year, there have been some re-emerging trends in women’s ring designs that offer endless possibilities on how to use colour, cut and design. Here’s a brief overview on the elements that make up these three key trends!

Rose Gold

Rose Gold is being chosen now more than ever as the base metal for custom design rings. It’s loved for its romantic pink hues and soft glow as it adds a different dimension than white and yellow gold does. This addition of colour in contrast to the diamond helps to accentuate design features of the ring. No wonder it is becoming a more popular choice!

Colour Contrasting

Not only are we seeing more colour in metals like rose gold, we are now seeing it in diamonds as well. Have a favourite colour you want to work into your ring design? Coloured diamonds and contrasting metals are a trend we’re seeing more and more of in custom designs this year. Fancy colour diamonds are offered in a sparkling blue or a warm yellow hue and are being paired with an array of metals to create different textures, styles and looks.

Vintage Sensibilities

Vintage sensibilities are showing up in many custom designs this year. The halo for instance, while a relatively new design, reflects the cluster ring that was popular in the 1980s. A halo features a center stone – which can vary in size – with a circle of smaller diamonds around it, creating a ‘halo’ effect. The design allows you to include more than one halo in a ring, depending on your taste. This creates a dynamic and layered effect to offers options on how to balance the center stone.

These three key trends are showing up everywhere in the custom design world. Like any of them in particular? We can work these ideas into your custom design easily to create a unique piece for your special day. Head on over to our education centre to read more about how to start planning your custom ring and book a consultation with us today!
